Call to action!

We’re on the last leg of our journey through the Tarot. We’ve gone through the Major Arcana cards, the cards that represent a path of self-awareness, and three of the four suits of the Minor Arcana, the cards that reflect day-to-day activities in our lives. Last post, we discussed the suit of Swords, representing the mental aspect of our human consciousness.

Today, we will discuss the suit of Wands, which represent the spiritual level of consciousness. Wands are associated with primal energy, inspiration, creativity, ambition, expansion and spiritual awareness. They address those qualities that make us tick – our personalities, egos, self-concepts, level of energy and enthusiasm. They also have to do with movement, action and initiative.

One more time, my descriptions of the Tarot cards are very general, just to give you an idea of how the Tarot can be used as a tool for personal development. When used in a reading, each card’s meaning will be based on its underlying symbolism, but will vary from reading to reading, depending on a variety of factors – the question(s) asked, the personality of the person requesting the reading, the circumstances of that person, etc. My intuition also plays a big part in what is revealed to me through the cards.

Now for the energy of the Wands…

Ace of WandsWith Aces representing new beginnings and potential growth, the Ace of Wands indicates a feeling of incredible inspiration and enthusiasm, that raw energy that you feel when you have a new idea or are starting a new project. As with all Aces, the Ace of Wands represents the seed from which something can be manifested. It’s the spark needed to fuel the fires of great potential.

Two of WandsThe Two of Wands asks you to take the spark of inspiration of the Ace and put a plan of action into place for your idea. It is also a card of discovery, telling you to step out of your comfort zone to explore new experiences. As a card of duality, it can also represent having to make a decision of some sort.

Three of WandsThe Three of Wands indicates opportunities beyond your plan to expand your horizons, to enlarge your current plans and maximize the potential of your future. It can also indicate travel and the opportunities of growth and discovery along the way.

Four of WandsWith stability and a strong foundation as its basis, the Four of Wands is a card of celebration, good fortune, harmony and balance, satisfaction and fulfillment. It can mean getting together with family and friends as well as a marriage, birth of a child or any other celebration marking a milestone.

Five of WandsThe Five of Wands, as with all Fives, indicates conflict and change. This tension is preventing you from moving forward with your goals. It also may mean competition or diversity of opinions. But this conflict, in a more positive light, can indicate brainstorming and problem-solving.

Six of WandsAfter the conflict comes the success of the Six of Wands, a card of victory and recognition for achieving your goals. It indicates that you have used your strengths and talents to realize a successful outcome, creating a sense of faith and belief about who you are and what you can be.

Seven of WandsThe Seven of Wands shows the struggle after the initial satisfaction and fulfillment of the Six. This struggle can become a challenge to the continued success of a project. It says that you must hold your ground and use your self-confidence and self-belief to overcome any obstacles.

Eight of WandsThe Eight of Wands indicates that you are once again free of obstacles and can now move at a rapid pace with your endeavors. You are very focused and structured in your activity because you are so sure about your goal. This card may also indicate air travel, more like a whirlwind trip such as a business trip or vacation.

Nine of WandsThe Nine of Wands says that you are so close to finishing a project, but you may be faced with more challenges or setbacks before you can reach the pinnacle of total success. Do not be discouraged. Be resilient instead and know that you can overcome any adversity if you maintain your position of strength.

Ten of WandsThe Ten of Wands, as with all Tens, is a card of completion. You have reached the end of a cycle after much struggle, and you are in a position to finally reap the rewards of all your efforts. But you must also see that with achievement of your goals comes great responsibility. This card may also indicate being overworked, overtired or overstimulated.

Regarding the Court Cards, remember that they represent a person, event or a personality trait of yours.

Page of WandsThe Page of Wands indicates a free spirit who represents change and new beginnings – that sudden creative spark that comes to you. As the Page, you are passionate about life, enthusiastic about everything you do. But be careful not to be impulsive. The Page as a messenger may bring good tidings.

Knight of WandsThe Knight of Wands takes the initial creative spark of the Page and through commitment and energy puts it into action. He is fearless, impatient, impulsive and loves to simply charge forth with his ideas and visions to make things happen. He has abundant energy and ambition but needs to temper it with a balanced and realistic view.

Queen of WandsThe Queen of Wands is the indication of a strong, independent feminine leader focused on her desires with the intent of getting what she wants. She is an inspiration to others and can be considered a “mover and shaker”. She is bold and courageous, confident and optimistic, and is a natural extrovert.

King of WandsThe King of Wands is pure fire energy, more interested in taking an idea and changing the world to match his vision. He is a natural born leader with great vision and the ability to get things done. He loves challenge and knows how to stay on track to accomplish his goals. He is a forward thinker with a long-term view, and will do just about anything to succeed. This includes empowering others, through respect and compassion, to help him, as he knows it will benefit all.

Well, we’ve made our way through the Tarot, looking at the overall journey of self-discovery, as well as the mundane activities of daily life that reflect how we traverse that path of awakening. I want to thank you for joining me in our travels and hope that you have enjoyed it as much as I have.
